Here is my story…one of my WHY’s is really enjoying that quiet time to get some serious thinking completed
I have been thinking about this since Dark Anchor January 2023. I later saw the post about YETI WA 2023 and coach Arabelle told me that I was NOT crazy for doing two 100s in under 6 months so my mind started planning.
You see my mom passed away in November 2022 and has 2 sisters. One who lives about an hour from me and the other who lived about an hour from that race. So my aunt and I went out and visited with them all for a week (some I had not seen for at least 45 years). I then headed to do my race.
This trip and race held a very special place in my heart as a family reunion and reminiscing about old family stories.
This tattoo represents that dreaded tunnel, my love of running at night, the mountains, the ‘Yeti’ and the rainbow holds an extra special place in my heart. Here is that story:
My dad was ‘our protector’….always
As I did the 1st out and back and was at the aid station, Phil who was one of my crew, said to me “Do you have a raincoat? ”
You see, there was a storm in the direction that I was heading and it was to be bad according to Phil.
His final words were something like “Dodge the lightning ”
Of course, lightning, rain and being all alone does not make me too easy feeling. So off I went wearing my mom’s bright yellow rain poncho that I kept from her car. It had the words SATURN across the back.
I headed out past the lake and around the gate looking up and ahead at the lightning off in the distance. I was truly worried as I remembered Phil’s words as I trudged along in the light rain.
I decided to say a prayer and ask my dad to ‘please don’t let me get struck by lightning
I went into the forest in the light rain and heading towards the direction of the storm. Not knowing what was going on until I came out of that stretch.
As you see from my picture at the other end, my daddy moved that storm and had it all better for me.
